Candle Care & General Info

Properly caring for your candles ensures you experience the candle to its fullest potential. Practicing proper home care also increases the longevity of your candle and also helps maximize your candle's scent throw.

Here are some tips and tricks below that will help you take appropriate care of your goodies. The tips and tricks you'll see here are also included in care cards that are shipped with each candle order to equip you with the best ways to care for your candle.

General Candle Care Information

Your first burn is the most important burn because soy wax as memory. To avoid tunneling, burn your candle for at least 2 hours for smaller vessels or 3 hours for larger vessels to make sure you have achieved a full melt pool from edge to edge.

To maximize burn time, always trim your wick before each burn and burn for no more than 4 hours at a time. This ensures a clean burn every time, increases the candle's lifetime, and provides a better scent throw.

To trim your wicks, you can either use candle wick trimmers, scissors, nail trimmers, or even your fingers! If using your fingers, have a napkin handy to clean any messes.

Keep the flame away from any drafts and burn on a flat, heat resistant surface.

Never leave lit candles unattended.

Never leave wick debris or wick trimmings in the wax.

Never burn for longer than 4 hours at a time. Burning for at most 4 hours each time you light maximizes its lifetime and you will achieve a great scent throw. You also want to avoid burning for longer than 4 hours to avoid carbon build up and soot emissions as well as overheating jars. All in all, long burns can result in a build up of indoor air pollution and it poses a safety risk.

Discontinue use when you reach 1/2 inch of wax at the bottom.

Cotton Wick Specific Care Information

Trim the cotton wick to 1/4 inch before every burn. Wicks bigger than this has a tendency to soot or pop and wicks smaller than this can lead to issues reaching a full melt pool.

Cotton wicks have a tendency to "mushroom", which is what we call the carbon build up at the tip of the wick. This mushrooming looks like black beads and can easily be trimmed.

Wooden Wick Specific Care Information

The wooden wicks that are used in our products are crackling wicks, which provides a warm ambiance with a gentle, soothing crackle noise when lit.

Wooden wicks require more attention and care than cotton wicked candles. These wicks need to be trimmed to 3/16 inch, shorter than cotton wicks, to burn properly. A short trim is required so that the wick holds a flame. Untrimmed or hardly trimmed wooden wicks will self extinguish.

General Information About Our Products

Vessel Information:

4 oz candles have approximately 23-28 hours of burn time with proper home care. The height of the jar is 2.7 inches and is 2.2 inches wide. To maximize scent throw, these candles are best for small sized rooms (i.e., hallways, bathrooms, laundry rooms, home/work offices, etc.).

8 oz candles have approximately 45-50 hours of burn time with proper home care. The height of the jar is 3.5 inches and is 2.9 inches wide. To maximize scent throw, these candles are best for medium sized rooms (i.e., bedrooms, living rooms, kitchens, etc.).

Wax Melt Information:

Wax melts are a great alternative to those who do not want to burn candles or those not allowed to burn candles. These are safe, paraben free, phthalate free, and made with 100% soy wax.

To remove the wax melts from your warmer, turn off the warmer and allow the wax to completely cool and solidify. Once it is cool, it will be fairly easy and quick to remove the wax cleanly.

Do not add any fragrance oil or essential oil to the wax warmer and wax melts.

A single cube can release fragrance for 8-12 hours. I am a fan of blending multiple Wayfarer's Wicks scents so my personal suggestion to you is to get multiple wax melt scents and try your own blend creation! Check out our blog on blending wax melts here

Reed Diffuser Information:

Similar to wax melts, reed diffusers are also great smoke-free alternatives to those who do not want to burn candles. Unlike wax melts, reed diffusers are very low maintenance, continually fills your space with fragrance, and requires no electricity.

These are ideal for dorm rooms, living rooms, bathrooms, bedrooms, offices, or bedrooms.

For best results, flip your reeds every 3-10 days to maximize the fragrance throw. With proper care, a single bottle will provide up to 3-4 months of fragrance.

Each reed diffuser is filled to 4 oz with VOC-compliant base and clean, phthalate free fragrances. It comes with responsibly harvested rattan reeds. The reed diffusers are also Prop 65 friendly.
